Testing

Sundling students take a variety of standardized tests each year.

MAP

Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP)

Your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP) during Sundling's fall testing window of September 2 – September 26. We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics.  Your child will take the tests on a computer.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing.  And with MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth. Over the next several weeks, your child will spend a total of about three hours completing these tests.

During MAP testing the RTC will be closed before and after school.

Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth. For more information on resources for parents, download the Parent Toolkit (pdf) from the Northwest Education Association website.

EXPLORE

Eighth graders usually take this test in December at the public high school that they would attend (usually Fremd or Palatine High School). The test is held on a Saturday and takes 3-4 hours. The EXPLORE test helps the staff at your high school properly place students in classes for their freshman year.

For more information about the EXPLORE test and sample tests visit the ACT website.

Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT)

All students in Illinois public schools grades 3 through 8 take the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT). This test takes place in the spring, usually right before spring break.

For more information about ISAT and sample tests visit the Illinois State Board of Education website.
