Snowflake 2010
Friday, April 16 from 2:30pm-7:00pm
2010 Permission Slip
This annual event has been extremely popular with our students. It is kind of a motivational event for junior high kids. Kids meet after school all together and in small groups. A trained speaker targets specific problems they all have at this age. In the past the speaker has shown film clips of other kids in different situations and then stops the film to discuss how to solve the problem with the kids input. It is a really cool program. Then the kids to break off into small groups, with high school leaders, giving them a chance to meet others and work together. They dance, have contests with teachers as judges, and have dinner together. By the end of the night, the kids have some great ideas in their heads about being kind to other people who they might have thought as different, about saying no to drugs, etc.
Snowflake 2010
Walter R. Sundling will be hosting our fourth annual Snowflake event this April. Operation Snowflake is an ongoing youth and adult cooperative process, focusing on prevention, and founded on the belief that every person has the capacity to make sound decisions regarding life and behavior. This is based on accurate information and an understanding of self, attitudes and motivations. This process is designed to promote personal and interpersonal growth, leadership skills and healthy decision-making, regarding a broad range of life concerns.
The event will be held on Friday, April 16, in the WRS gymnasium from 2:30pm-7:00pm. There will be trained student leaders from Palatine, Fremd, and Barrington High School who will be teamed up with WRS teachers to run the event. WRS students will be placed in small groups where they will participate in games, discussions and ice breaker activities related to the topics our speaker has touched upon. The small groups will meet after each presentation given by our speaker, Matt Bellace. One of the themes he will touch upon is peer pressure. For more information on his presentations, please visit www.mattbellace.com.
During the evening, students will have time to give out warm fuzzies, eat pizza, dance, and spend time with their friends. Snowflake is a great event, and we encourage you to ask questions and join on the fun next year if you cannot make it this year.
The signup dates are March 1st through March 19th. 2010 Permission Slip. The cost of the evening is $10, which includes the pizza dinner and a t-shirt to remember the evening.

***SPECIAL PARENT NOTE***
This year we have added a “parent component” to our program in which Matt Bellace provides a special motivational session for parents while the students are busy eating their dinner. In addition, parents will be asked to join the students in the gym for the closing activity. If interested, please indicate that you plan to attend by marking the box on the permission slip below. Please join us in the WRS theatre at 5:30pm.

PTA helps to make this great event go smoothly by making posters, breaking children off in groups, organizing parent volunteers for that night, and get food items donated (about 50 people). If you would like to assist contact the PTA Snowflake committee chair.
