Academic
Help
An important aspect of academic success is to make sure that students
are prepared for class. Check the school supply
list to make sure
that students have all items. Don't forget to replenish supplies
at least once a quarter!
Please note that there are no after school help, activities,
or activity bus on the first Monday of each month. All teachers
attend staff meetings on those days.
| Homework Hotline |
always available |
| All teachers maintain a current homework hotline,
which should be used for obtaining homework when a student
is absent. Parents and students may access each teacher’s
homework hotline by dialing the teacher’s extension directly
and following the verbal directions, usually: press 1 to leave
a message, press 2 to hear the latest assignment. See the Sundling Staff
Page or the assignment notebook for phone numbers. |
| Asking for Extra Help |
by appointment |
| Many teachers are available for special help before or after school by appointment.
An appointment should be made with a teacher to get extra help to master the
material that was presented during regular class time. Appointments should
be made in advance since teachers often have meetings or other responsibilities
outside of regular classroom hours. |

| Friday School |
selected Fridays
2:25pm-4:00pm |
Students who have fallen significantly behind in academic work will be asked to take part in an academic intervention program on any given Friday after school. Friday school will take place immediately after school until 4:00pm at which time students will be expected to work up to the academic expectations of their teachers. The purpose of this program is to curtail any chronic absence of class work or lack of academic effort. Parents will be informed if the student’s attendance is requested at Friday School. |
After School Activity Bus
Students who are participating in extacurricular activities,
such as interscholastic sports, intramurals, clubs, receive academic
assistance, use the RTC, or detentions will be permitted to use
this service. Students who are not involved in activities or
after school detentions will not be permitted to ride the activity
bus.
The activity bus fee is $60 per family. The fee for the activity
bus can be paid in the school office or through the district's online
payment system.
Students involved in an after school activity will be issued
a bus pass for the activity bus by the club or activity sponsor.
A new pass must be used each time the student rides the bus.
This pass will be distributed by the club sponsor daily at the
end of the activity. There are no permanent bus passes issued.
The four activity buses load students at 4:00pm and depart
at approximately 4:15pm, Monday through Friday, according to
a route schedule determined early in September. The routing will
take between 30 and 40 minutes depending on weather conditions
and the number of students riding the bus. Please be
aware that student activity bus stops may require students to
walk further than their regular bus stop. Since not
all students ride the activity bus every day it is not possible
to include all regular student bus stops on the afternoon route.
Stops are chosen based upon centralized locations identified
by the district transportation department. Please refer to the
route schedule for stop information.
The after school bus program runs Monday through Friday. The
activity bus is not available the day before Thanksgiving, Winter
Break, Spring Break, and for scheduled faculty meetings. In addition,
if after school activities are canceled due to inclement weather,
the activity bus may not be available. Students are informed
by intercom announcement of after school activity and activity
bus cancellations.
Progress Reports
Progress reports are issued quarterly, every nine to ten weeks, throughout the school
year and are given to students to bring home to parents. Fourth quarter reports
will be mailed to parents after school is out in June. Mid-period
reports are issued for students who are not making satisfactory
progress. These reports are mailed home to parents each quarter.
Graduation Requirements
Ensuring that students are adequately
prepared for high school is the academic goal for Sundling
staff. In order to accomplish
that goal, it is necessary for students to meet minimum standards
of achieving passing grades in the academic areas of English,
reading, math, science, history, and foreign language. Students
cannot receive two or more failing grades during the fourth
quarter or repeat failing grades in one class during third
and fourth quarters. All 4th quarter assignments in all areas
must be completed. Students who fail to meet these requirements
may face one or more of the following consequences:
- exclusion
from the 8th grade picnic
- exclusion from the 8th grade activity night
- exclusion from the
graduation ceremony
- completion of summer school prior to receiving
a Sundling diploma
